Dr. Jerry Avorn

Jerry Avorn is an internist and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is one of the most highly cited authors in health care research in the United States, and founded one of the nation’s most respected research units studying medication use, effects, and regulation. His last book, Powerful Medicines: the Benefits, Risks and Costs of Prescription Drugs (Knopf) received critical acclaim; he is also the author or co-author of over 600 papers in the medical literature, and opinion pieces in The New York Times and The Washington Post. As an undergraduate, he was principal author of Up Against the Ivy Wall: A History of the Columbia Crisis (Atheneum). He is currently completing a book on medication policy, costs, and outcomes, to be published by Simon & Schuster.
