Kirsten Dirksen

After earning a degree in economics from Harvard, Kirsten Dirksen spent a decade documenting pop culture for networks like MTV, Discovery, Oprah’s Oxygen Media, and the Sundance Channel. She filmed teen shows for NBC-San Francisco, hit the road with touring bands, and explored European castles in search of Da Vinci Code clues.

It was during a trip to Spain to interview Javier Bardem for the Sundance Channel that Kirsten met Nicolás Boullosa, sparking a collaboration built around a shared passion for rethinking how we live. Together, they co-founded *faircompanies, and Kirsten launched a YouTube channel devoted to exploring homes, gardens, and lifestyles that challenge convention.

Sixteen years later, that project has grown into a global phenomenon. With over 1,000 videos, 700 million views, and 2 million subscribers, Kirsten has built a devoted audience captivated by the quirky, ambitious, solitary, enterprising, and often deeply moving spaces people create for themselves. Her path to YouTube success has been as unexpected as the dwellings she documents—but it’s precisely that unpredictability that makes her stories so human and compelling.
