Nicolás Boullosa is a writer, journalist, and documentary filmmaker from Barcelona. In the early 2000s, after meeting his partner Kirsten Dirksen, the two co-founded faircompanies, a video-driven platform dedicated to sustainability, simple living, and human-scale innovation. They began posting to YouTube shortly after its launch, and one of their early viral videos—about a 90-square-foot NYC micro-apartment—has now reached over 25 million views. Since then, their channel has helped pioneer coverage of trends like off-grid living, regenerative agriculture, #vanlife, DIY architecture, and ghost town revivals.
Today, Nicolás splits his time between Europe and the U.S., traveling and filming alongside Kirsten for the faircompanies YouTube channel, often joined by their three children.
Formerly editor-in-chief of Digitalware magazine and editor at Playboy, he has directed several online publications with a focus on thoughtful, non-partisan digital storytelling. His work is driven by a commitment to deepening public understanding of the forces that shape our well-being—technological, ecological, and cultural.
He is the author and translator of several books spanning a wide range of topics, from speculative fiction exploring early encounters between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens to essays on the future of blockchain and Web3. A nature enthusiast with a background in photography, he attended the PERC Institute’s program in free-market environmentalism in Bozeman, Montana.
