Robert Kanigel

Robert Kanigel was born in Brooklyn, NY, but for most of his adult life has lived in Baltimore, MD, where he lives today. He has written seven books, on wildly differing subjects. His second, The Man Who Knew Infinity, was named a National Book Critics Circle finalist, a Los Angeles book Prize finalist, a New York Public Library Book to Remember, and has been translated into Italian, German, Greek, Chinese, and other languages. He was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for his On an Irish Island.

His most recent title Eyes on the Street earned him great acclaim; the Washington Post raved that his is “the definitive [Jane] Jacobs biography, illuminating how her ideas rankles….in prose that is as lively as her own.” The New Yorker also heralded Eyes on the Street as “hugely attractive.”

He is currently working on a biography of a classics scholar who in the 1920s overturned long-prevailing ideas about the origins of the Odyssey and the Iliad provisionally entitled Hearing Homer’s Song: The Brief Life and Big Idea of Milman Parry.
