Monica Edinger was born in the South and then moved about for much of her childhood, living in various Midwestern, Eastern, and European locations. After college, she spent two years in Sierra Leone as a Peace Corps Volunteer before settling in New York City where she is now a fourth grade teacher at the Dalton School. The author of several books for teachers as well as articles on a variety of topics, Monica has reviewed for Kirkus, The Horn Book, and the New York Times. She is a well-known presence in the children’s literature online community and blogs at educating alice.
Previously, Monica has had NEH and Library of Congress fellowships, chaired NCTE’s Notable Children’s Books in the Language Arts Committee, and has been on a Newbery committee.
Africa is My Home received the 2013 New York Times Notable Children’s Book Award and the 2014 Children’s Africana Book Award.
