Gus Gordon

Gus Gordon is an author and illustrator of children’s books. He has written and illustrated nearly eighty children’s books for children. His illustrations are known for their loose, energetic line work, mixed media (most notably collage) and nonsensical humour. His writing has been described as melodic, soulful and quirky. It is almost always anthropomorphic (where animals take the place of humans in the narrative). It is a writing style he believes was most likely born from a long love of Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in The Willows. His picture book, Herman and Rosie (Penguin Australia, Neal Porter Books) about two lonely New Yorkers drawn together through music, was selected as a Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Honour Book in the 2013 Book of the Year Awards and has been sold into eight countries. Gus lives with his wife and three kids on the Northern beaches of Sydney. He likes cheese, books and music. And people who like cheese, books and music.
