Professor of Italian at University College London, John Dickie is an internationally recognized specialist on many aspects of Italian history. His first trade book Cosa Nostra: A History of the Sicilian Mafia (Palgrave, 2004) has been a huge bestseller in the UK, selling over 150,000 copies. It was followed by Delizia! The Epic History of Italians and Their Food (Free Press, 2008), which won a Special Commendation at the André Simon Food and Drink Book Awards 2007. In 2005 the President of the Italian Republic appointed him a Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella di Solidarieta Italiana. His first television documentary, The Mafia’s Secret Bunkers, was broadcast on BBC2 last June and in Italy in April. His next book, BLOOD BROTHERHOODS: Italy and the Rise of Three Mafias will be launched by Public Affairs in April 2014.
